            Hailing from a family of peasants and working as a postman for his first job, General Khamtai Siphandone is a former Laotian politician and served as the President of Laos, from February 1998 to June 2016. He was also a member of the Communist Party of Indochina in 1954 and sat on the Central Committee of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party in 1956.
